| Mullet Virgin Hi.I fish for Bass in my local river mouth (quite unsuccessfully),and every time i go i can see Mullet surface feeding further down the river.I have decided that i would like to catch one of these ellusive fish. As a begginer i have a number of questions. Firstly,i think that free-lining bread on the surface would be the best option.I realise i have to totally cover the hook with bread. What size hook and line should i use ? Secondly, should i use some shot on the line to get extra casting distance. If so,how much and how far down from the hook? Should i use a stick float for bite indication? How old should the bread be? Finaly, what rod should i use?I have a couple of 11 ft spinning rods and i have a cheap 13 ft coarse rod bought from argos when i first started fishing. If bread fails i have some mullet spinners.Should i bait them or leave bare hooks.I have been advised to bait a spinner with maddies. What are these ? Sorry about all the questions, but,as i say,i have never fished for these fish before. Thanks for any help. |

| Re: Mullet Virgin Maddies are harbour rag ![]() i use a bubble float for mullet fishing , a size 12/14 hook and line no heavier than 10 lb . drennon 6lb double strength for the hook link . use a 2/3 foot tail. buy a cheap carp rod of 2lb tc , i use what ever bread i can take from the kitchen lol One thing to do is if possible ,place a union bag full of bread , bits of fish , old lug .rag up stream and let the float follow the current . free bait down stream |
