Re: mullet fishing help !!

Tried and tested on the river Medway (salt tidal ) Carp rod and bait runner reel loaded with 15lb line. Size 4 hook one lump of split shot and a drilled bullet ledger. Tie hook direct to main line and set ledger so that a floating bait is a couple of inches below the surface. One big lump of bread flake on hook. gentle lob out and set the reel on the runner. Loads of patience. when fish takes let it run and slow it down using finger pressure on spool before reeling in.

Re: mullet fishing help !!

When it comes to mullet ,your up against a fish that is far more cunning and intelligent than Einstein !......As John says a grenade is one of the better options ,although i`d favour a Gattling gun .I`ve spent hours sat on the back of the boat in Penarth Marina ,watching shoals of 6lb plus mullet ignoring my bait on purpose .

A good mullet angler is a very very patient angler !!

Re: mullet fishing help !!

They can be frustrating fish to catch but they aren't impossible

Fish with line no heavier than 8lb, small hooks around a size 8, either a small ledger rig, a small coarse style float or a bubble float and most importantly, dont leave any of the hook showing through the bait

I always use bread only, but if theres any of the hook showing through the bait then any fish over 1lb wont go near it!

Re: mullet fishing help !!

try using carp style controller float fluro carbon hooklink, build the shoals confidence first get them competing for the bread first then cast amongst them one will make a mistake they are just like surface feeding carp in summer. No good using a standard float rig you need a bolt type rig where the fish hooks itself against the weight of the float. This way you shouldt even have to strike.

Re: mullet fishing help !!

ive had some mullet and bass out before using a quiver tip set up with a swim feeder with mashed up bread inside fishing very light 4lb line size 12 hook.i didnt spot the fish though i used to cast out and wait for the fish to find the bait.you would only get away using this method really on esturaies or in harbours .good luck.
