Green peas

Hi!
Have anybody had success with peas for bait and burley when fishing for thick lipped mullet?
I usually use bread for bait, though in some harbours (in particular one in witch a river flows in to) schools of small orfes and roaches can be a nuisance eating away at the burley and bait. I figured green peas might work for bait since mullets generally like to eat green algeas and such. I imagine a hair-rigged pea would stay on the hook much better than bread and the orfes probably wouldn't eat it either.
