| Re: shore mullet ive watched a dvd called 'the magical mullet'. very helpfull. shows three methods, one is simple float with bread, but the next two wer brillant ways... ...baited spinning spoon. mullet arnt predatory but they are oppurtunist! they think it is a small fish carrying a worm away. so they try and nick it. the lure is home made with two hooks. he top being a size 8- 12 course hook and the lower being a smallish sized aberdeen hook. you slide the worm (lug, rag or earth) up the larger hook and then hook the head onto the smaller hook. this helps it stay on. retrieve slowly and dont strike, as the mullet like to knock the bait a fair few times before striking. the next is fly fishing. the flys you see buzzing round kelp are key here. when the kelp starts to rot the flies lay there eggs. in 3 days under this warm blanket, maggots appear. you groundbait the incoming tide with this maggot ridden kelp. hence attracting mullet. you dont need a great fly cast, this guy had home made 'maggotfly'. a polystryene shaped maggot, onto tis he place 2 live maggots. and used flaoting fly line. casted in and waited for the mullets to come. mullet shovel the surface taking in several at a time. |

| Re: shore mullet We catch all our mullet here from the shore, one of our guests had one of 7-9 last week and I have been having catches of up to 10 fish in a session over the past two morths mainly fish in the 4 to 5 pound bracket. As any mullet nut will testify ground baiting is very important and not just with bread. In areas where the crabbers clean out their pots I take the bulk of my fish on mackerel and gb with minced macky and breadcrumbs. |
