Re: catching mullet?

never caught a mullet, but the idea i get is to get them feeding on bread, then add your hook baited with bread( on a fine line as they are often spooked). then keep you fingers crossed!! hope this helps, but maybe someone who knows more can fill in anything i've missed!

Re: catching mullet?

Had my first one on a piece of ragworm the other day. Bread seems to be the most popular bait but they also go for bacon and all sorts where I was fishing (according to Devon Dave, our mullet expert, this is quite common where there are a lot of people crabbing as the fish see so much of the stuff). Can be caught on float or leger and always look simple to catch as they come into harbour areas in great numbers and are probably more visible than any other sea fish but they are also very spooky. Use the lightest line and smallest hooks possible (mine was caught on a size 8 coarse hook and low diameter 4lb line). Be prepared to ground bait heavily with loaves of liquidised bread , possibly feeding over a couple of days before you actually start fishing, to get them feeding well (this has been my downfall as I never have enough time). I have also been told that adding aniseed flavouring to bread can help. Basically, treat them like coarse fish. Definately give them a go, they are fantastic fish to catch on light gear.

Re: catching mullet?

Pross, you really do not know what you've started. Mullet will drive you nuts but they are , next to Bass, the most rewarding fish to figure out and bl@@dy hell do they fight.

Best regards and keep the valium close.

pete.
