Hamble Mullet

Me and scott fished the hamble fishing for mullet, first we fished the shingle where i showed him a bit of fly fishing we saw a few mullet when the light reflects off them we wernt having much luck so we fished the bridge. we saw alot of mullet and they where feeding scott showed me a few tips almost every time when i casted the mullet go mental for bread but they usually only eat the side of the bread and my heart always stops when a mullet comes by for my bait lol. so when i let it float, one mullet made it sink and the fish where realy going for it suddenly when my bait dissapeared i gave it a little pull and the mullet was thrashing about, it took my drag but when it started too realy fight against me it come off when we looked at the hook there was a scale on it so i think i might of foul hooked it.. so after 10 minuites when the mullet cooled down abit from the fight they where back feeding again. scott had a few takes and he had some realy nice mullet go for his bread. when they started surface feeding i made my bread float and the end sink. lots of mullet ate the side of the bread, till one mullet came along and almost ate the whole peice of bread i made sure it had it i striked and it was on a fast run... as we where fishing on the bridge we had too get it so we could net it. we got it too go down the pontoon and we netted it.. after that good scrap it turned out too be a golden grey mullet. here are the pics...

i was very happy as i have been after these mullet for about 1 and a half years... (thanks scott for netting it and taking the picture) and i released it back too fight another day, and hopefully breed too make thousands more... the tide started too get a bit too deep so we fly fished . i used a bread fly but no takes till i changed it too a shrimp fly.. first cast there was lots of bass chasing it, shortly after that a massive mullet came out of nowhere for it. but it looked away... i also had some smelt going for it.me and scott had nothing fly fishing i changed back too mullet fishing with bread no takes but i saw a few fish. we fished the shingle where we saw a few mullet but still nothing. other from that it was a great day catching my first ever mullet. unlucky scott for blanking... i think i will be at them again soon.

Dan , well done mate. Problem is you just don't realise the problems you've caused yourself now. This has got to be one of the most annoying and rewarding British fish.
