First Session of the year....

Well, I headed down to Newlyn Sunday morning armed with a load of mackerel frames, browse and generally smelly old mackerel....(been out a few days) so it was really stinking.

Settled into spot I have never fished before and laid down a good carpet of ground bait.

On the business end.....4lb line to a size10 widegape specialist hook baited with a fair lump of mackerel flesh.

No bites for an hour and then the smallest of indications that something was interested in the bait. Kept feeding in bits of mackerel flesh...and then had my first positive bite of the day...and completely missed it...."wakey wakey" I chided myself.

The sun was really hot by midday and soon down to T-shirts to soak up a glorious day.

Was just watching a local gig boat row past with a female coxwain when I saw my float start sliding away and struck into my first mullet of the year. A good fight later and a lovely golden grey was on the bank. I weighed it on my scales at 1lb 10oz and ....doh....forgot my camera so could nt take any pics. Slipped her back and continued to fish.

I went on to catch 3 in all. Hooked into a couple more but lost them near the surface. I noticed the bites were very tentative....with only the odd one reallt powering away.

Anyhows finished up late afternoon...with a nice tan, 3 fish and lovely day out.
