| Re: Coreolis effect? Having been to the equator and seen the demonstration live I believe it. The guy who did it for us had a plastic tub with a hole in it, as the water flowed out the bit of straw turned clock wise or anti clockwise depending which side you were on, and exactly on the equator there was not noticeable spin. The physics works and it should happen, but sinks etc may change this effect as it is a small force and the shape of an outlet pipe might affect the spin more. tell your brother that you and he are going to go to africa on safari, and which ever one of you is wrong will pay for the trip, you are on a sure fire winner there. |

Omaha, I just found this posting and I have to say im suprised you gave up so easily. i would want an average taken of several hundred sink emptyings before conceeding anything. You also have to consider that those in the southern hemisphere are upside down and therfore viewing the plug as if in a mirror.
