Probably just needs adjusting. When the big spring on the bonnet meets the crossmember and compresses, there's a shaft in the centre of the spring that comes down and engages a spring-loaded retaining plate in the cross-member. The central shaft can be screwed in or out to adjust, assuming it hasn't simply fallen out. Or the spring may have failed on the retaining plate. Take a look at it and you'll see what I mean.

Steve

p.s failing that, you can buy bonnet retaining straps but they're not cheap and a bit fiddly.

Whats the deal w/remembering the reg #(registration#?? )
Now, granted....I remember my first licence plate# but, mine was a special case. My plate said "NVT".
My dad had the "NVT" on it when he gave it to me, so I kept it. Mom had "N-V-T" on her car for awhile.
Here in most States you can submit initials, words, phrases, or in combination w/numerals. And if its not already taken or obviously offensive you can have it on your licence plate.

same reason i had to rember number plate. i rember getting stopped by the police at 110 mph in my mini which was quick for a mini but it did have a 1380 race engine in it lucky for me the copper that stopped me was a mini enthusiast so let me off in the warning if that had been now i would have been banned those were the days lol

Re: first car

Hi Ben,

28 year old car - 85mph - 2 people on board - no power assisted breaks - just passed your test. Have a little think, before you go out in it again???

Cheers

Drew

Smile Re: first car

..........First car - metalic green 1300GT Capri Mk1.

I thought it and I were absolute Babe magnets.

It looked a million dollars & went like a shopping trolley with me and my mates in it.

Black vinyl roof with full length Webasto sun roof.

Leaked like a sieve. Rusted like crazy. Polished & Hoovered every week.

Bought for £32 from a mate who had been posted away.

Sold on to another mate when it was my turn to go. Must have got £30 or so for it.

If those front seats could tell a tale......

Enjoy your car Ben.

Malc

Re: first car

MkIII Escort with a pathetic 1100cc engine which I paid way over the odds for (£1500) from my sister's friend on the basis that her mechanic brother has completely stripped and re-built the engine. It had these really annoying economy lights that went amber or red as you put your foot down but the car was so underpowered they had to be on nearly constantly and 2 up with bikes on the roof the car only just got up the hill to the M5 junction on the M4! Had it 12 months and spent nearly as much again on repairs including the clutch twice (not my bad driving honest!). Sold it and bought a Fiesta 1.6d which had been convereted from a van and was brilliant, had 93,000 miles when I bought it and I reluctantly got rid of it 4 years later with 197,000 on the cloc.
