Re: Now a chartered accountant!

Tax advice, tax returns, sole trader accounts, limited company accounts, statutory audits, assurance work for aquisitions/disposals, general business advice. Basically we're the link between clueless people in work and what HMRC wants them to do and provide. :)

Re: Now a chartered accountant!

Don't forget accountants officially have the best Xmas parties too.

and in true stereotypical form I do play golf, but then I don't drive a stereotypical accountant's car either.... Time for a volvo!

Re: Now a chartered accountant!

Hmm, I get nervous when money laundering and Northern Ireland are linked.

I only do tax avoidance through legit routes of course, the way it should be.

I didn't realise you ALL worked for the government.

Get to play with my first self assesment in April
Rang the tax helpline to explain my circumstances had changed, very nice lady said "no problem, you will have to complete in 2010, I will pop it in the computer & we will send you the paperwork nearer the time."
Couple of days later I got a conformation letter.
A week later I recieved a very official letter saying that they had just discovered that my circumstances had changed and that I would have to do a self assesment form the following year.
Blooming computers.

Re: Now a chartered accountant!

Not a nerdy type?
What did you do cheat ? #

Pete "I work in IT, I'm not a nerd and no I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR BLO@DY PC" Lewis. :)

There's a reason why I don't tell people what I do to pay the bills, it's far toooo boring.

It nevers ceases to amaze me how many my fellow nerds, sorry work colleagues, can ask "but Pete how can you patiently sit next to a river all that ime and not catch any barbel?". I can't figure out if it's because they think it's too dull or that my volcanically short fuse and quick sarcastic mouth (the size of a moderate ocean liner) gives them the impression that I couldn't wait more than two seconds for anything. I can wait, when the prize is worth it. Waited two years for Mrs BB and she's been worth every second :)

Whatever my reasons for not wearing the chemical formula for caffeine like some of the sadder people I work with, it doesn't detract from my congratulating you on passing them exams. Well done.

Re: Now a chartered accountant!

Well, I'm a bit nerdy.....

I drive a diesel because I like the economy and to save fuel, yet to counter that I've wellied the power up close to 300bhp and I take it on track where it's safe & legal to do more than 70mph.

I also play golf = nerdy, but then I also like to mountain bike, play tennis = less nerdy? I also like to fish.... Is that nerdy?

Re: Now a chartered accountant!

Hah! Out nerded, I drive a petrol......estate....Toyota...Avensis and I play golf (allegedly and rarely), no this is just getting nerdier by the second. Right I'm going to finish these not nerdy quill floats I'm in the middle of making.

And drink not nerdy TOO COLD lager. None of your not too chilled real ale here :)

All the best mate, hope it's all going well.

Re: Now a chartered accountant!

When I used to work in complyance (sp) in the tax office in Cardiff we spoke to many people who should have employed accounts as it would have saved them money, congrats
