| Two trips off Pompey 24/25 Aug The first trip i Launched the Kayak from the end of my road and paddle out into into Portsmouth Harbour. Under the motorway bridge and a 40 minute paddle to the deep channels that the ferries use. I anchored up here and fished with large Macky baits and worm baits. As usual the worm baits were hammered from the off with a steady stream of shoal Bass being caught, not a touch on the Mackerel heads. I upped anchor and moved to another spot off one of the dolphins. I put another two large mackerel baits out and set up another rod to catch some pout for live bait. The pout came straight away so i changed the macky bait for a live pout and sent it down to find a Bass. I missed a stonking bite on the macky head somehow , the rod pulled right over but i never even felt a fish![]() About 30 minutes later the pout rod bent over and line stripped off the spool, a good fight and a few minutes later i had a nice Bass alongside the yak. It weighed bang on 5lb, my biggest of a poor year. (so far) I fished on for another 2 hours without a bite, i think this was due to it getting dark, i've never done any good live baiting in the dark. Has anyone else? The second trip was yesterday when i took my lad Alex out on the back of the yak (being the smallest kid in your class has it's perks )I paddled out again and we fished just worm baits. We stayed out for about 3 hours getting 4 Bass each the biggest being 2lb. It was a cracking little trip apart from when i got back i realised i had left the straps for my trolly (wheels) on the low tide mark what an idiot. So that was my last yak trip of the summer as i'm away for the next two months, when i get back i intend to get my first yak caught Cod ![]() ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us __________________ One day i will post a catch report again. |

| Re: Two trips off Pompey 24/25 Aug Great report - seems kayak fishing is becoming more popular, but I prefer to have my feet on solid ground, as its easier to light the stove and make a cuppa . Well done on the bass too. |
