New to kayak fishing Hi I just ordered a new yak a perception freedom decked out for some fishing didn't bother with the fishing model as it didn't give me much more has anyone had one of these I had a go on my mates prowler but I think this was a lot more in my price range and seems similar just a few basic questions !!! Where do I keep my catch and what's the essentials I'm gonna need I'm generally going to be just off sore or in the harbour in portsmouth the back storage doesn't look huge so any tips on how to make it useful ?? Plus if anyone wants to take me out when it arrives that would be cool generally I'm a fair weather fisherman so don't expect me in the winter but I might be persuaded if I get the right kit

Re: New to kayak fishing Hi there i own a freedom and so far have 14 trips at sea o think its a great yak although i cant compare with anything else as only ever used this. It does lack storage but i now only ever take what i need which consists of small box with tackle youll find you dont loose too much so a few weights hooks and traces,i find a simple running ledger works for most fishing situations. with fish caught, in the past i've hung fish over the side ropes through the gills pulling them up once i up anchor, others use a mesh bag over the side. essentials are pfd spare paddle vhf radio and if you get the bug like many do the list gets bigger and bigger my perception has a fishfinder fitted and have gps with bluecharts for fishing wrecks etc as well as a drysuit and anchor. But best advice i can give you is to log onto anglers afloat as everyone there will offer help advice and you can meet up and fish with others in your area,it also helps if your a little bit nuts ![]() regards dan

Re: New to kayak fishing Hi I got out at the weekend was fun I was drifting off south sea seafront just to get used to the waves was fun mesh bag sounds good just setting up an anchor trolley I managed to get a crate a perfect fir for the back bait box under my feet even braved sitting sideways for a bit which was a lot more comfortable I keep reading about anchoring being hard I have a small dinghy which is easy what's the difference I get the snag thing but surely it's just bow and stern on the trolley and lock it off ?? Are there alternatives to dry suit for colder weather ?? Like waders and jacket I don't plan on being that far from shore in the winter if at all tbh as I hate havin cold fingers I'll prolly just stick to the dinghy
