| Boxing Day Offshore I had been watching for a possible weather window and today looking like the best for a few days I decided to get out on the water. Tides meant an early morning launch and bleary eyed I arrived at Keyhaven sometime after 4am.It was cold. Rigged up at the slipway and noticed that the water was frozen at the shoreline ![]() Launched and soon realised that the ice wasn't just at the shoreline,a good few hundred metres of water was frozen ![]() ![]() Once I'd managed to beat my way through it the sea was flat calm,it felt great having the place to myself, something special about the early morning launches.Even out past Hurst into the bay there was only a 6" chop Decided on a wreck about 4 1/2 miles WSW from the Needles about a 10 mile trip from Keyhaven(where the red boat is on the plotter). ![]() It was developing into a beautiful morning ![]() ![]() I was absolutely biteless with 3 rods out after an hour and my right foot was bloody freezing :-/ and seeing that the tide was starting to pump towards St.Catherines I decided to up anchor to make it a slightly easier paddle back. During the paddle there were some fantastic sets of waves rushing through the Needles Channel ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Got back to Keyhaven and took some more pics of the ice ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When I landed a yottie took my pic and thanked me for breaking the ice for them ![]() |
