| Re: Not a kayak but.. a Canoe.... SEA BASS - wash your mouth ![]() Now its washed ... fishing off a Yak is the dogs danglies - it reaches parts others cannot ![]() The important thing is the type - 99.9% of fishing takes place on a SOT Kayak (sit on top) and NOT a SINK (sit in Yak) ... it is very difficult and some would say dangerous to use a SINK to fish with ... a canoe (true sense of the word) is also not recommended due to its instability on open water - matter of opinion ... Take a look at the anglers afloat webpage - tons of info for beginner on there ... __________________ SUPPORT THE RNLI - click : www.rnli.org.uk ... every little helps ! | Re: Not a kayak but.. a Canoe.... I bought an open canoe in 2002 for sea fishing, but have since acquired sot kayaks as they are much safer. I do still occasionally take the canoe out but it is only used in ideal conditions in the summer and not far from the shore. The issue with an open canoe is self rescue should you capsize, this can be done as long as you have plenty of buoyancy bags fitted, there are a few demonstration videos on you tube. Here's mine on it's only day out last year ![]() Notice the red buoyancy bags front and back and the long yellow buoyancy bag to the right hand side. The yellow side bag enables you to re-enter over the side without completely swamping the boat. I also carry a bailing bucket and use all the usual safety gear ie. VHF, flares, spare paddle, PFD, compass, mobile, GPS, dry or wet suit, anchor and trolley. |
