diy or not

in other peoples opinion would they buy a kayak already kitted out for fishing with rod hgolders etc or buy one and customize it themselves, i quite like the idea of doing it myself and feel i'd get more satisfaction and a kayak that would best suit my needs

Re: diy or not

If you are buying a second hand kayak I would say it will be cheaper to shop around and buy the various add-ons such as rold holders and hatches etc and then fit them yourself.

Most Yak specialists charge a fortune in my opinion for doing what is a really easy and quick job which any reasonable hands on diy kind of guy could do at home. I have done all my own stuff without any problems at all.

That said if money wasn't such a concern and you are buying a brand new kayak then it might be worth haggling with the supplier/dealer for a full fishing set up and get the price down as best you can. Some dealers are better than others but the market is pretty competitive.

Cheers Jason
