Hayling Island

Flushed with my success on Friday - had a other bash at Winner bank with John this time ...

Conditions were different with a strong F5 SW wind and quite swell on the way out. J fancied the tip of the bank where there was a lot of white water so arrived & beached the Yaks on the sand and walked into the surf and fished with lures in the breakers all along the tip of the bank.

The water all the way in for the last 100m or so was less than a metre so only possible on a Yak ...

It looked wonderful fishing wading into the surf ... bloody typical though, after extolling the virtues of lithium batteries in my camera - the soddin' things gave up so had no pics ...

Anyway, half dozen casts I had a small bass about a pound on a big 6" shallow diver ... in less than 12" of water ...

Another half dozen casts or so and no more than 10 foot from me the rod bent double and the reel screamed off ... eventually landed tonites tea - lovely Bass of about 2-3lb again in about 12" of water ...

Tide was pouring in by now so waded back to the Yaks to paddle nearer to the beach and anchored up in about 2-3m of water .... had nothing apart from one Bass (?) that broke surface right behind the lure in front of the Yak but thought better of it and swam off ...

That was the lot ... paddled back in a real big swell and rode many a wave coming in - little scary !

Superb mornings fishing in the surf - water was lovely and warm even in the wind and deffo worth another go soon ...

This is getting very addictive ...

Well done lads. Seems you're rapidly abandoning bait fishing as well.... I really must get the plugs out again sometime soon...

Re: Hayling Island

Wonderful and well done.

Strangely, it's illegal to land (keep) any bass from a boat within 'Nursery Areas'.
Even if you caught them off East Head banks on land by fluff chucking.

I'm getting on a bit (I have a bus pass) and the local by-laws are not enforced anyway.

I'm doing my bit (fer me, only) to be on the new IFCA (used to be called Sea Fisheries Committee).
I was interviewed at a Hotel in Brighton about 2 weeks ago for an unpaid post.

I'd rather be fishun' than being involved 'politically'.

I have to keep an eye on the madness of Euro CFP, particularly.

Re: Hayling Island

Thanks Ada :-)

The nursery area goes out to the Langstone Fairway Buoy from Eastney then almost back to Gunner point ... ie. so only covers Langstone Channel and not the East side of the bank ...

Anyway, my one Bass for tea pales into insignificant compared with that the boats take there ...

PS - is a Kayak a 'boat ?

Oh yeah ... If they want my Bass .... they can prise it from my cold dead fingers ....
