Smile ireland 2008 report part 1

Well , what can I say about our trip to Ireland apart from ….it was great !!!! kiwi and me headed up to Bristol to meet old smoothy (shaun) then packed the wagon and headed off to Pembroke to catch the ferry to rosslaire .We arrived about 7am then made our way down to the dingle peninsula (4hr drive ) to our house for the week…Sunday we had our first trip out on dannys boat (cant remember the name ,sorry) .we headed out to Brandon head and drifted along the coastline (awesome scenery) filling the baitbox with mackerel for the days bait, baits for the day were hokki’s tipped with mackerel and the results were amazing…wrasse, mackerel, dab (which I thought was supprising!!!)red gurnard, scad, pollack big whiting, haddock, grey and tub gurnard and cod …the second day on the boat we bottomed fished looking for rays and bull huss which we landed along with doggies (ofcoarse ha ha ) undulate ray and thornback also conger and ling ,one of the lads (Chris ,friend of Shaun ) caught a tope of around 30lb and a big pout of about 3lb, another good day on the boat….time for some shore fishing now so we headed to clochane in search of flounder and bass, bait for the evening was black lug which we dug a couple of hours before session and it wasn’t long before we were into the flounder (about 20 between us ) upto about 1.5lbs and kiwi caught the only bass of the evening 2.5lb, what an awesome beach with a breath taking sunset……third day on the boat wasn’t the best as the swell was a bit high but we got on with it and caught the usual Mackie along with doggies ,scad ,herring ,Pollack and red gurnard …..i also caught a specimen red gurnard of 2.2lb (badge please ha ha )…anyway it was a great week and cant wait to do it all again , shaun has most of the pics so will have to wait for him to post them up…..cheers kev
