| Re: Fish identification needed Thanks guys.....I agree with Paul, it does look like a kind of bream to me too, as it looks similar to our black bream. __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |

| Re: Fish identification needed Have only just come across this. Definitely White Seabream Diplodus sargus sub-species cadenati found from Gibraltar to Cape Verde (including Canary Islands) I can't find a decent picture of the Canary subspecies, but here is a link to the other sub-spp, Diplodus sargus sargus which is very similar, and found in the Eastern Med and Black Sea. You need to scroll to the bottom of the page. The stripes are faint whilst the fish is swimming about, but become more pronounced when caught - ie its a sort of danger signal to its mates http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com...gus_sargus.htm Once you are south of the Bay of Biscay, there are lots of different sea breams with stripes, and lots more without ! __________________ Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |
