Re: ice fishing Pross had tried ice-fishing here in Lapland in December.. Umm, that's badly out of fishing season (and cold too). Except if you fish for burbot, which is kinda like state of art.. We ice-fish here from March to May when days are not that cold anymore (-5 up to +10) and it gets better the later you go. ATM it's the best time to go icefishing, there's still 2 feet of ice except in places where there is current. Perch is the most common catch i guess, i try to go more for greyling & brown trout

Re: ice fishing I see a lot of people on here who have not ice fished.... Well I am from Vermont USA and that is about all you can do up there in the winter. It is alot of fun if you like beer and really cold weather. In the winter we drive our trucks out on the ice and set up a shanty to fish from. We have a wood fired stove in the shanty to keep us warm and often on the weekends three or four of us would go out and sleep in the shanty from friday night till monday morning. In the US people fish for different species depending on where they live. In the northeast we mostly fish for landlocked salmon, lake trout, and cusk. Each person is aloud six lines in most areas and we just drill a 8" hole through the ice and put down a tip-up baited with smelt or shinners, and sometimes suckers. Every now and then we would catch a fish that would not fit through the hole and we would have to break out the chain saw. If anyone is planning to go next winter and needs some info just send me a message and I will walk you trough it.

Re: ice fishing ice fishing lmao , all the fisherman here in sweden are mad about it ...dunno why cause all you get is very cold. seriously though i really dont like it, you have to spend half the day putting on all the layers you need then you trek out into minus 20 and spent the first two hours drilling a hole through 5 foot of HARD ice, by the end of the drilling you are sweating like you have been on a two day yomp through the jungle. then you start to get COLD and all the nice sweat that you made starts to freeze. naaaa fishing should be fun not pain

Re: ice fishing As mentioned earlier icefishing is quite popular in Canada (go figure). I fish in the open on warmer days and at least once a year I head up north and rent a hut for a few days. At some places you stay in a cottage & go out to fish from a heated hut. At others you spend to whole time on the ice in a hut with beds, stoves, sinks, barbecues & tv's. Toliets are in another hut nearby. You can fish though holes in the floor of the huts or fish outside and use the huts to keep warm. Best Wishes

Re: ice fishing Many colder states have websites that have ice fishing reports. Obviously, mostly during ice fishing season.. As the bite 'turns on' and 'turns off', typically fishermen will post their favorite lake and how the ice fishing is doing. One often overlooked area is some of the smaller lakes and rivers. Here, ice fishing is usually under the least amount of pressure. If you search through the ice fishing reports, you will usually find a certain lake that produces nice fish year to year. Often this information is buried in the 'archives', but it's there! Compare current dates to last year's dates when comparing ice fishing reports. Many times the ice fishing is similar and the same pattern emerges. Don't be afraid to experiment. And, of course, always be safe on the ice! Stay on roads that the snow plows use and you'll be able to see the ice better. Courtesy when ice fishing is appreciated by all ice fishermen. Clean up your area around your holes and we'll all be able to enjoy another day of ice fishing!
