Lake Simcoe 05 Feb 09

On Thursday myself & a buddy decided to head out to Lake Simcoe, Ont., Canada for some icefishing. Started out in 80' of water targeting whitefish.
Here's a decent whitey George caught.

The largest fish of the day I was lucky enough to get.

After catching our limit on whitefish & we lost a few on the way up before limiting out, we moved in to shallower & caught between 20-25 smaller perch.
Overall George may have beat me on numbers but size also counts.

Best Wishes: Rick

Naw: was only -29C until the sun came up. Warmed up to about -12C by noon. Sunny with hardly any breeze so it wasn't too bad. Averaging about 12"(30 cm) of ice on the lake. But than we also don't shut the country down for a few inches of snow.

Nice fish Rick. Never heard of that species. Are they good eating?

Try this link about the species. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coregonus_clupeaformis
Excellent eating. Pan fried, poached in white wine & my favorite smoked. In freezer now but hope to fire up the smoker in the next few weeks.

Well done Rick... Good to see you out on the ice catching fish again.

Oh, and we only shut the country down because the extra bank holiday idea was thrown out... You've gotta take your opportunities when you can mate.
