St Helens IOW

OK it was the annual trip to the Isle of Wight.

We were staying at Nodes Point so we dug some rag and hit the beach (10th).

There were three of us, me (obviously or none of this or the statement US makes any sense), Dan and Ash .

It was slower than an English striker.

Dan caught a snotty eel and I caught a boot lace that didn't even register. So it was back to bed and sleep.

I put it down to the fact that we plonked ourselves right next to the car park at the church and and with the water being so clear it was a non-starter.

So a couple of nights later (and minus Dan), we were off again. This time tide was 2 am. We went a few hundred yards down the beach and (more importantly away from the car lights and late night skinny dippers), near some beach huts.

I bagsied the groyne swim and cast one rod long (Ok 80 yards but that IS long for me) and the other short up against the groyne.

To cut a long story short I got an eel of about a pound (that lay it on it's back and it will calm down thing WORKS) almost immediately from the rod near the groyne, a small bream on the rod further out then two very small school bach on the rod close in.

Ash blanked.

Bit of fun and a new species for me (never caught a bream before).

Next time it's going to be a longer walk nearer Bembridge harbour or a trip round the corner nearer the stunning Priory Bay.

If you have been to the Isle Of Wight but never been to priory bay then get yourself round there , it is probably the most beautiful on the island, though Compton is still my over all favourite. For swimming etc that is.
