John o'Groats to Lands End

Managed to land a gig driving a truck full of deckchairs & sofas from the top to bottom the the country as part of cyclists support team (Sounds excessive but guess I'd want a comfey seat after cycling 100 miles through the mountains ).
Naturaly taking a few rods along & hoping to get time to use them.
will let you know how I get on , will be on the road for two weeks & really looking forward to some spectacular scenery this island has to offer . I've never been that far north so if any one has fished John o'groats I'd love to hear about it .
Oh , and if anyone wants to sponsor me beer for every hundred miles completed , I'll happily accept .

Re: John o'Groats to Lands End

I was one of the support crew drivers and stills photographer for the Land's End to John o'Groats expedition by the Paramotor club in 2008. It was supposed to take 7 days ish, but the weather was so bad it turned into a 13 day endurance excersise. Hope you have better luck mate. Be careful in Vegas

Re: John o'Groats to Lands End

Still heading north . interestingly my route lead me right to the door of Hardys museum & shop in Alnwick . Emerged from said door somewhat poorer. Took my 1902 Hardy to get some more info on which was interesting & had them select me some good flies for the scotch trout. Was just about to leave when I noticed a rack of very discounted rods in the corner, some ex demos & all sold without bags or tubes . couldn't resist two grays rods at £30 & £22 each !
Had a worrying moment when a chunk of the coolent tank sort of exploded off on the A1 , made one hell of a bang ! Luckly a recovery mechanic came out & fitted a new one in record time.
Should be in Jo'G tomorrow evening & maybe time to fish on friday .

Re: John o'Groats to Lands End

Chucked a toby lure out a few times last night from John o'Groats jetty and managed one small pollock . Was a bit strange fishing in the daylight at eleven o'clock at night .
Looking forward to that can of MacEwens Steve ; )

Re: John o'Groats to Lands End

Friday evening at John o'Groats was far too cold wet and windy for a softy southerner like me to be out fishing , so took a well earned rest .
Camp 2 on Saturday, however, was on the banks of the beautiful Kyle of Sutherland about 30 miles north of Inverness . Managed to get permission to fish it , though the owner said I'd stuggle on the falling tide which was the only time I was free .
I had to give it a go and just to be fly fishing in such an iconic scottish setting was great . the fact that I landed my first ever trout on the fly ( a beautiful wild brownie of about a pound) made it an evening I'll always remember and what a scrap it put up for it's size ! As my first trout it felt right to put him back but I have a photo which I'll post when I get home .
Fished on a while but that was my one & only , though it certainly lifted my spirits through the midnight packdown later on. ( Glad I didn't waste the evening watching England draw like everyone else on site ) .
