| A Rough Day A mate from the building game, Stuart emailed me to see if I fancied having a go on his boat RAZORBILL 2, it was short notice but with the hot still weather conditions (I suffer from sea sickness) I jumped at the chance, booked the day off work and meet Stuart and a couple of other anglers at 7.00am We set sail from West Mersea for around an hour, It was a bit choppy and I did struggle to stay on my feet at times but the sea sick tablets were working so I concentrated on trying to catch a few fish. This was only my second trip on a boat and the last time out I only managed to catch a few Whiting and the sea conditions were calm. We were fishing tide with the wind and within an hour one of the other anglers caught a nice sized Thornback followed by the other angler catching a Thornback and a couple of Dogs followed I was wondering I was jinked when I had a couple of knocks and wound into a Thornback of 11.5lb, I managed a smaller male Thornback (7-8lb) which I kept for tea. I then caught another double figure female Thornback that was returned unharmed, A couple of dogs followed before the tide eased The wind increased and fishing with the wind against tide we struggled and suffered so we moved to a more sheltered area, it was still rough and the sea sick tablets started to wear off, after a couple of fruitless hours I was glad that we all agreed to call it a day I am looking forward to going again, I normally target Zander on the rivers and pits. The Thornbacks fought well on the light tackle that I was set up with and would recommend a day out on Stuarts boat Razorbill 2 (web site www.merseafishingtrips .co.uk) Darrell |
