| Persian gulf kipper Sorry ive not posted for ages but as some of you know i m away untill next year. Ive not done much fishing lately ,when i have ive caught lots of bream and other small stuff . But a few weeks ago i did get one kipper of note. I was fishing off the back end in harbour with my travel rod , 8lb line and small hooks with a litte strip of fish on . Sea bream , needle fish were all throwing themselves at the bait when all of a sudden bang! My rod bent over , the drag started screaming and off it went . Whatever it was must have easily took 100 yards in the first run , after what seemed an age it slowed and just stayed deep about 100 yards out in the bay. One more run and my line would be gone , i could see the bottom of the spool. There it stayed , swimming back and forth in the bay and me with my poor travel spin rod tottally locked up fearing it would smash at any time. 45 minutes later and the beast was still out near the Iranian border just plodding up and down .I would gain a few yards and it would take a few back. After about 50 minutes i tightened up the drag and started to bully the fish ,if i didnt beat it now my arm was going to fall off. A crowd had gathered by now ,maybe 20 people on the back end and another 15 on the jetty all telling me how i should just pull it in .If only it was that easy Little by little i started to get my line back , inch by inch at first and then foot by foot ,whatever it was ,it was staying deep ,but coming my way. Another 5 minutes and i had it below me ,all i wanted was just to see it ,if i lost it after seeing it i wouldnt be to bothered. Up it started to come , my light gear on the edge of smashing ,then it would run deep again pulling line off my tight drag with ease. At last it surfaced to the sound of 30 grown men swearing ,i have to admit when i first saw it it looked absolutly massive. The lads lowered a large cradle that we use for work and i gently steered the fish towards it. In she went to a huge cheer and i slumped knackered, my wrist was in bits . It took 63 minuted to land on 8lb line and a very light travel rod.If it had gone under the ship or the jetty wall i would have had no chance. So i was very lucky . Its not the biggest fish ive caught but ive never had one as big on such light gear,i was buzzing ![]() It turned out to be a Queen fish and weighed 24lb. ![]() ![]() Well thats all from the Persain gulf for now, i will report if i get anything else , hope your all well and enjoy the weather ![]() ![]() __________________ Flag of the day=Micronesia??It's very small. |
