Hey I'm old to fishing and can't catch either. Joking aside , it'll happen eventually. Of course you're ideally placed for some of europes best sport so once it all starts to kick in you'll be seeing the green green eyes of us jelous beggars over here. All the best, Pete.

Re: New To Fishing and CANT catch a thing

Don't give up on it kido.....it took me 10 sessions before I caught my first sea fish....a whiting of about 5 inch lol...I was over the moon.

I was close of giving up myself on sea fishing at the time...glad I didn't though.

I still do more coarse fishing than sea fishing but I'm always glad when I catch a any sea species...even when i only get plagued by pouting

Re: New To Fishing and CANT catch a thing

WOW
Cant believe that you not caught a thing in your area.
One of the most important thimgs to remember is have patience.Too many people give up after having cast and left for ten minutes. Try leaving your bait in the water for at least half an hour before checking your progress!!
By allmeans have a twitch and give movement to your bait( that will always help), but leave it there for some time.Remember you can't catch a fish without your bait being in the water.
Also presentation of your offerings is important.TIP. When using fish baits make sure its fresh(still alive if poss.)try tying elaticated cotton to the eye of your hok and wrap it round the top of your bait. This will stop the bait bunching on the hook and leave the point exposed.Dont forget though give it some time!!!!

Re: New To Fishing and CANT catch a thing

Hey Irish welcome, just hang in there and you WILL succeed.
Try talking to some local fishermen, some may help some may not (fisho's can be terse sometimes) and as has already been mentioned the local Fishing Tackle shop ,it helps if you ask to buy something too!

Re: New To Fishing and CANT catch a thing

It must be anoying to hear people say how good the fishing should be where you are. I recon It would be a good idea to join a local club and talk to the guys there, they will give you an idea of what bait and tackle to use.
Good luck
Paul

Cool Re: New To Fishing and CANT catch a thing

Hmm - Try fishing at the right times maybe.
Fish don't bite at any time of the day. They got their preferred feeding times.
I don't think tide is always so important but needs to be considered.

I find the Moon influence much more important.
Fish bite definately much better during new and full moon.
Their daily feeding times mostly depend on the Moon and Sun Position.

If you're unsure of best times check out Fishing Reminder

My catch rate has increased a lot since I've been fishing at the correct times. Also the fish are much bigger.
But of course you also need to look at factors like water and air temperature, wind and the right spot ;-)

Anyway - hope I could help
