| Re: International Fishing Reports That might be a good idea...I've been contacted by a man in Saudi Arabia about making sinkers from salvaged car battery lead there.... I'm hoping he's serious! | Re: International Fishing Reports Wow ..... and lead is so expensive nowadays, surely it cost a small fortune in shipping???? ..... I tend to use old Nuts (as I work in construction they are easy to come by) then I don't mind losing them :) If I am bottom fishing and using say a 30lb set up I will use a 10 or 15lb mono about 6" in length and tie it to the nut then attach it to a bottom swivel. If you should get it caught on some underwater snag then you only tend to lose the old nut and not the entire rig....... saves on the lead :) __________________ Tight Lines, Ian Harper (fishemirates) www.fishemirates.com http://fishemirates.freeforums.org Remember ....... I agree, we do need an international section. We get a lot of overseas anglers who join & then drift away again because the existing sections don't cater for them. It would also allow for overseas holiday reports etc. How about it Richard?.... |

| Re: International Fishing Reports Oh well ..... Here is a report I made on our forum .... this is from Fujairah on the 25/1/08 ...... enjoy Well the first Fish Emirates organized boat trip didn't quite get off to a bang but more of a pop Oceanblue-Andre, Khaled, Ahmed and Myself went to Fujairah and chartered a boat at 1pm with East Coast Fishing Charters. After a bit of umming & arring due to the fact the morning charter had failed to catch anything and they complained the waters were too rough, we boarded Makulu and set sail. As the waters seemed a bit rough we tried to catch a few live baits for live trolling near the harbour as the yellowfin's were seen jumping there earlier on in the day. After catching only a couple of bobble eyes we decided to try for Dorado near the tankers as the wind had calmed down and so had the waters. We had 4 lines out, 2 Large Squid/Ballyhoo combos, 1 small squid and one Metallic orange Rapala. After about 30mins of trolling between the permanent anchored tankers the rapala took a hit and I landed my first ever Bonito - about 60cm and roughly 4 to 5kg's (see pic below). About an hour later the starboard Squid/Ballyhoo screamed of the reel. A sailfin had taken it, but then released it. 10 secs later again she took it. This happened 3 or 4 more times but she lost interest. Another fish gave the port side Squid/Ballyhoo a couple of knocks but again unfortunately no go. As we were told the sailfish beak and mouth are so hard that getting the hook set is very hard. At least we know they are there. Another hour and nothing except a couple more knocks on the ballyhoo from some small Bonito or Dorado. Then the small squid screamed away and Andre hooked into a small Bonito (see pic below) but that was it for the day. All I can say is that although we didn't catch a lot I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I think the others did also. The water is still a little bit cold (22 deg C) so when the temperature gets upto to around 26 I think the fishing will definitely improve. So big thanks to Wayne at East Coast Fishing Charters for an enjoyable afternoon and a big thanks to Peet (Captain) and Dixon (Deckhand) for making us so welcome and teaching us a lot about fishing in Fujairah. Don't worry guys we will be back http://www.imageposter.com/uploads/get/208417 http://www.imageposter.com/uploads/get/208419 __________________ Tight Lines, Ian Harper (fishemirates) www.fishemirates.com http://fishemirates.freeforums.org Remember .......
