| Re: Bury Hill Sunday 18th Hi Guys, Not much of a report I’m afraid. When I arrived at 8:30 much of the one side to the right of the cafe was taken up by a Pike/Zander match and the swims further round were also taken. I didnt know it was a match until i was asked to move by one of the guys which drew the peg i was on. I had checked the notice board and match diary at the front desk when I got my ticket and nothing was showing for Sunday so wasnt too pleased. I planned on casting tight to island but because of this I couldn't get anywhere near it and had to fish in open water in the narrower, shallower section. A very quiet day in all - Out of about 30-40 anglers on the Old Lake, I witnessed 5 fish caught in total - A 4-6lb Bream, 5lb Pike, 10.5lb Pike and a very small Zander plus I caught a very sickly looking 5-6lb bream to a trimmed white fruit boilie fished in a large PVA bag of boilie crumb and pellet. I also missed a slow run which I suspect was another Bream. I was suprised at how few Pike/Zander were landed considering there was about 40-50 rods out for them! I spent most of the day chatting to a regular. He's fished the place for 25 years and recently has seen a steady decline on the old lake with fewer and smaller fish being caught every year which he blames on high pressure/over fishing. He also said I shoudn't believe everything I read on the Bury Hill website as the owner does tend to exaggerate the weekly reports! This was my second time at Bury, the first time I blanked so a slight improvement, I'll be going back again in April to try again for the Big Carp. James |
