| Arrived at Steve's (Warmit's) at around eight & loaded the gear into his Diesel (More on that later) Ford Focus & set off to Todber as planned. We had booked a couple of pegs on Paddock lake, which is the fishery Speciemen lake & holds Carp between 10 - 35lb & Catfish to 38lb. The fishery is really well set up with a well stocked tackle shop, several lakes (Speciemen & match) Holiday cottages, clean toilets & showers on site. There's even a washing machine if you fancy a long stay. We arrived at the lakes about 45 minutes later & unloaded the gear. Steve had kindly offered to lend me his spare JRC fishing chair. Problem was he had stored a can of Diesel in the back of his car & it leaked all over the chair The conditions looked ideal. Fairly mild, overcast & a light breeze. We tackled up & I baited with a hair rigged pop-up pineapple boilie on one rod & a Tutti-frutti boilie on the other fished over halibut pellets & chopped boilies. Steve used a hair rigged crab flavour boilie on one rod & pellet on the other. There were two other anglers on the lake who had been there all night. On speaking to them though, we discovered that they had'nt had a bite. Not very encouraging!!!" Sadly this was to set the pattern for our day too. Other than a couple of line bites, there was no action. We had been warned by the fishery owner that things would be hard & that the secret was to locate where the fish were shoaled up. We tried casting to every likely looking spot on our side of the lake, both deep water, in the margins & close to every feature, but to no avail. Then just as on our last visit, the wind started to rise & down came the rain . I'm pleased to report that my new brolly stood up to the elements this time & did'nt let me down like the last one. Later we watched the other anglers pack up & attempt to leave in their car, which promptly got stuck in the mud. We went & gave them lot's of helpful advice on how to get it un-stuck & ended up pushing them out & getting covered in mud in the process. We decided to call it a day soon afterwards & as there was no-where to turn around near the lake, Steve sensibly decided to reverse down the gravel track to avoid getting stuck. The problem was that his car mirrors & windows were steamed up & he ended up driving off the track & into some even deeper mud!!! All in all, not a very sucessful day. I recon that Baitmasters recent run of bad luck must be contaigous... __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |
