| Re: how to fish when cold Shrek Going to fish for carp in this cold could be a challenge...carp don't feed well this time a year in the cold. It would help to let the forum members know where are you going to fish i.e a fishery river or canal.....I'm sure there will be someone here who can give you good advice. Good luck ![]() __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |

| Re: how to fish when cold i well firstly before talking about the fishing i think keeping warm is important so. if you are cold it no fun at all so make sure you are prepared good boots and your clothing need to be able to keep you dry and the biting wind off you also a brolly will help with this too hot drinks are also a good idea either take a flask or a little billy stove to do a brew . now as for the fishing in the cold you can fish for any species but some are harder to catch in the colder month than others . now you like but as you said in your post you are thinking of targeting carp and they do get caught all the time in cold weather but probably not as many as you would in the warmer month . now i,m not sure if you will be float fishing for smaller carp or if you will be setting your stall out for a larger resident so here,s what i would do once you selected your swim . i would keep baiting to either none of just a very small amount in a pva bags now another method that you could employ is to investigate the water layers using a zig rig as the carp will be sitting in the warmer part of the water and this could be 6inches of the bottom to 6 6ft and a zig rig would certainly would be worth using . i would scale hooklength down and use running lead tactics as bite can be very subtle and a running lead rig will give you the best chance of a indication if they are being finicky. feeder tactics will give you another option and more variety of species if used but keep your feeder mix light so it will break down quick but you might be float fishing for them so the above would not matter now baits i would take for a day winter carping is :: sweetcorn , maggots .lobworms. and small 10mm boilies ,and hooker pellet and then just work through the baits trying them till i find the bait they would take on the day you might even take some luncheon meat but the bait range is endless but having a selection of bait will give you a better chance of catching i hope this will make you think about your options and good for Saturday tightlines Kevin ![]() |
