| well today i was brought down ill by a throat infection and i threw a sickie on school. i woke up at 12am, 3am, 5am and then 7am durin the night and my throat was sore, i had lost my voice by 7! So i went back to sleep until about quarter to 1 in the afternoon. upon waking up i switched on mainstream with matt hayes and remembered we had some maggots left from the Bowesies trip! rather than let them go to waste i decided to go out to the local pond, as a throat infection doesnt affect my limbs enough to stop me fishing! Got there at about one and the water was very mucky...again. but the wind was a lot less strong and i just had a little breeze in my own corner of the pond. ![]() so i baited up with a few balls of groundbait and cast in a 4BB waggler, after plumbing the depth to about 5 ft, because the fish will be hard on the bottom. i had a size 14 microbarb and used small 4-6mm soft hook pellets..."loaded with B1 additive"...and red 'n' white maggots, as i had learned they were the best for this pond. and now onto the action. after catapulting out 2-3 pouches of maggots, my swim went crazy! i had 8 bites in the space of 5 minutes, all aggressive, and i managed to land one! 1.5 pts for the northern bulls please! a beauty of a roach to break the duck! ![]() if it had been summer, id have had about 20 of them + crucians, tench and maybe a perch, but our village pond doesnt like winter, so i called it a day after about 3 and a half hours, walking home safe in the knowledge that i had added 1.5pts to our total and more fish were just around the corner...because they are ![]() __________________ "Alright Jack, we all ready to fish?" | Glad to hear that the sore throat was'nt bad enough to stop you from fishing PP, & it would have been a shame to waste that bait LOL Small ponds can produce some great fishing & often hold the odd good speciemen or two to take you by surprise... __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |

| Re: Nature Reserve - 19th Jan 2007 tal;king about specimens in that pond...after years of fishing it i know there are 4-5 pretty big carp in it, biggest probably about 15-17lb, smallest about 5lb. also, theres a roach which i have caught, a right old lunker at about a pound and a half and hes so ugly i called him Gump he has no top lip, a weird pink kind of mushy eye and has a few split fins, i thought he was a chub at first! __________________ "Alright Jack, we all ready to fish?"
