Tackle Tarts Testing Trip

Well I finally got out fishing after two weekends lost to the curse of the fisherman, WORK!

The weather was as predicted, cloudy morning and a sunny afternoon with a slim chance of showers, cold with a southerly wind to 16mph.

We had one shower in the afternoon that gave us a lovely double rainbow, the pictures only show the one well.

this one of me re-tackling shows it better.

As Claudia and I had been Tackle Tarting recently we had new rods, pods and bite alarms to try so we decided to hit Todber manor and try and convince some carp to come and visit us on the bank.

We were not too confident that they would bite well in the cold but at least we were out fishing somewhere and not going stir crazy at home or round the shops.

We decided not to feed heavily as a winter tactic and to go on maggots only. I was also testing out a new polaris legering float, a neat little device for giving a really sensitive bite indication on legers, the float worked a treat as it indicated a gudgeon bite at 50 yards in a 12 mph wind, the bite alarm and bait runner reel did not indicate but the float did bob down half an inch and I struck it and found a 5 inch gudgeon cleanly hooked on a size 10 carp hook with 8 maggots hanging out of its mouth.

A few moments later at about midday I got a shout from Claudia as she was playing in a fish and it kept diving under the line on her other rod and she did not want a tangle, she landed it with no trouble and this nice carp weighed in at just over 4 lbs.

Things remained quiet and slow, I managed a couple of small perch and a micro perch no bigger than a minnow whilst Claudia landed a 5lb Bream at about 2 pm

A skimmer, some small perch and as the sun was setting a 3lb mirror ( no photo as it was too gloomy).

So Claudia was top angler this week, the guys fishing each side of us landed a fish a piece and one two pegs down had a couple of fair carp out, but honours to the lady she out did us all, with me getting the smallest fish and smallest bag prize!!!

But Hey I enjoyed the day out and was pleased to see Claudia do so well in poor conditions.

Looking forward to next Saturday and the "Far Canal Zander Mini Forum Meet"

Mike

Ps for those interested I looked at the metcheck fishing forecast and is was Average fishing conditions for today's venue, so about right.

Looks like you both had a fun session & well done on those fish Claudia. Wish I could have joined you both, but had to go shopping in Portsmouth instead. Earning some brownie points for next weekend.....
