| The old Warrior Hi All, Just a quick report on our day out today, we have a few days off and now the Gas man has finished fitting the boiler we got a chance to go fishing. We got up late and decided that a short session down our local (20 miles away) canal. I had found a spot I fancied but when we arrived it turned out to be just out side the club waters we are members to so it was a quick change and tried a new spot neither of us had visited before. Looked quite good and for a few hours we decided to give it a dibble. ![]() The day was clear and bright but a touch cold so I was not too hopeful of a good session, but at least we were out fishing. Here is a view of my swim ![]() We were both legering maggots with a small amount of ground bait as an attractant. First cast out for me just under the right hand tree and within a couple of minutes the line was banging around, so I struck fast and hard and managed to foul hook a medium sized perch in the tail. the day was a little slow after that but I did manage a decent sized Tench ![]() and some skimmers, gudgeon and some more perch. I caught one that was a weary and battle hardened old warrior, looked like he had been on the wrong side of Mister Pike. ![]() I felt a little sorry for this old boy! Claudia had similar luck to me, but missed out on the tench, but she did manage her first Perch ![]() this swim finally went quiet and we moved the 50 yards back toward the bridge and fished the last couple of hours, this was again reasonably productive for such a cold day and despite breaking one of my rod tips as we moved down the bank it was a really enjoyable day. All day we were both getting some massive knocks on the line and occasionally I saw big swirls and boiling water, so I think we will return here soon with the lamprey, trebles and braid in the kit and see if Old Esox wants his picture taken with Claudia. So tomorrow we head off to a commercial carp fishery we both like and see if we can encourage the carp to feed on a chilly november day. Report to follow. Mike |
