Bury Hill 6th November 2006

The Venue
Bury Hill Fisheries, Dorking, Surrey. All info here: www.buryhillfisheries.com. Got there at 7.30pm to find a mist covered lake, looked well spooky actually:

The Weather
Despite the gloomy start, it brightened up later:

I was originally going to fish for pike and zander, but the forecast was for sunshine all day. Just in case the BBC got the weather wrong, I had brought my new thermal gear and my Sundridge HotFoot wellies. I brought my stove and my tea making equipment. I even brought some chicken curry in a flask for my lunch. It was all in vain though as I was in a T-shirt by lunchtime! I couldn't believe it was November, there was even ducklings:

Tactics
Light (for carp gear). Size 10 hooks, short hooklengths of 6lbs and fishing slack lines. 10mm drilled marine halibut pellets on a hair. 1oz weights. Fished over small PVA bags of pellet mix:

That was on my right hand rod. On the left, standard carp tactics (spicy sqiud boilies) cast to the island to see if I could pick up a late season lunker.

The Fish
Well, I was pleased that my tactics had paid off for the bream, as I caught 5 in total, the biggest of which was bang on 5lbs:

The other 4 were 3-4 lbs. A couple were little scrappers, for a change.

Not a twitch on the carp rod, but to be honest, I hadn't hoped for much anyway.

I must admit, I've developed a liking for bream. Not surprising really I've caught plenty this year, everytime I've been fishing for carp! I think I might fish the feeder next year. 100lb bags of bream are not uncommon at Bury Hill and I'd like a bit of that!

Next though, I reckon it's my turn at some predator fishing, maybe at the end of this month. Anyway, I left at 5pm, very happy that I caught what I came for :

TOP TIP:
As most of us have a mobile phone with us when we fish, I stumbled across a little idea. If you've got one of those ones that have a 'Voice record' facility then you could use it to to remember details of your session for writing reports or remind yourself to sort something out when you get home. Saves on pen and paper, or you can transfer it when you get home.

Cheers
Rob

Great report Rob, really well done.

Loved the pictures and you just know when you fish the feeder for bream you'll get "pestered" by carp

Re: Bury Hill 6th November 2006

Thanks lads. As for the photos, they were taken on my £40 camera from Argos! Its fine for distance shots, but for anything closer than 4 feet its blurs. I'm hoping to get a pukka camera for xmas (fingers crossed)
