Re: Peacock Bass CR

Always great reports and pics Fosey. keep it up!!
Better luck next time w/ the Tarpon. Was it knot or line failure? Better 'beef it up' (use stronger gear) for the next try.
Tight Lines M8

ps. Peacock sound similar to a Largemouth Bass on a nest....They're Very finicky and cautious. They won't respond to 'food' looking bait very often, BUT, try a plastic/rubber salamander/lizard. A Bass will strike out of Defense of the nest because salamanders will eat eggs and fry.

Good Luck

The tarpon was lost because the line snapped. It snapped when the tarpon made the sweet jump. Yeah, we're gonna increase our leader poundage for the night trip.

Re: Peacock Bass CR

Went back to the usual water hole armed with some UL gear and my faithful Rapala Countdown.

When we reached, the water had some strange chemicals on the surface of the water...not good. But we weren't going to give up. We were casting and casting....and casting. NOTHING! Before we left, I saw a single parent peacock bass guarding its nest. Dropped my Countdown in front of its face. Nibble, nibble...and finally a whack! ZZZzzzzzZZ. It was indeed a very big specimen. Fought it for about 3-4 minutes on my UL outfit. Weighed in at 4.5lb.

After this, we went for a drink. While my friend was having a drink, he told me, "I want to fish somemore! I cant blank!!" I gave him a smile and we were back fishing. We both retied our leaders and off we went. My friend was using River2Sea Mid-dive. On his 5th cast, something hit his lure. He gave a hard strike. The minute he struck, the fish turned to it's side and sped off. IT WAS A TARPON!! Matthew fought the fish well and subdued it in about 5-6 minutes. It was a big specimen for that water hole. It weighed 4.5lb. Truly breathtaking!

Re: Peacock Bass CR

My friend is seriously the luckiest guy ever! After hitting that tarpon, he went back the next week. He was using a grub hooked onto a jighead. Within the first few casts we were there, he hit yet another tarpon!! The usual blistering runs, amazing jumps. Another beautiful species landed. Weighed in at 4lb. I'm still waiting for my tarpon!

Re: Peacock Bass CR

Well done Fossey, keeps these reports coming mate... They don't half brighten up a dull November day here!

Nice one!
