bumped fish costly act

well this evening i was just sitting in front of the computer trying to block out the ever increasing noise from my three wonderfully behaved children, when my mate Phil came round to see if i fancied a bream session .
i agree in a nano second and was soon riffling through my bait bins for some ground bait and goodies to mix up for the session again very basic mix was mixed up using standard bag up bread crumb and then added 2 tins sweetcorn pint of small halibut pellets some blood worm pellets and a half pint of low oil pellets then i added a half bag of sensas red to the mix to try a different colour .

with this done my car was loaded with our gear and off we went .
soon we were walking through the woods down to the river yare that has been really kind to us over the last few session and again tonight we were confident of another decent session.
once set up we quickly leaded the swim by counting down how long it took to hit bottom as we were looking for the edge of the boating channel .
we know from past visits this is normally where we will hopefully catch the bream .
the tactics were once again cage feeder with mainline being 6lb and a 4lb hooklink around 2 ft in length with a size 8 animal hook attach and sweet corn was being used as bait .
with this done i clipped up and sent a few feeder fulls of ground bait to get a bit out there to start with then settle back and waited for my first bite .
my mate Phil (the breammiester ) was first to see action and was soon landing a nice bream of around 4lb

after a quick couple of pics it was back to the rods and soon my tip arch round only to have me miss the first bite .
i was soon back out there and waiting for more positive action and i was not disappointed as my tip arch over again this time i got it right and i could feel the bream thumping on the other end i soon had this in and not the biggest but welcomed all the same .

this was soon in the keep net and i was again filling the feeder with my mix and sending it back out to the same spot i settle the rod and waited i watched Phil miss another bite and we both felt like a good session was coming our way .i soon was in again playing another bream of a couple of pound and it was pleasing to see it slide over the net rim.
again a quick picture was done and this was put in the net to join his mates.

i looked up to see phil playing in another bream but this was a small fish of about a 1lb and a half Phil quickly slipped this into his net .
i returned to my chair and sent my feeder back out and waited for more action i missed the next bite or two and then i hit into what felt a nice fish when suddenly i parted company with it and on inspecting my hook link i found it had snapped me .
i soon tied up another and attach it baited it with trusty old corn and sent it back out .
i few minutes past and it had gone quiet and i hoped by me snapping on that last fish i had not spooked the shoal no was the answer as my tip pulled forward i struck and the tip arched over and i felt it bumping the suddenly it came of .
i soon was back out in the spot waiting when again after a bit of a wait my tip pulled round again i connected with it and a few seconds later i parted with the fish i checked the hook it was fine .
in the mean time Phil had added another couple of bream to his tally and i was annoyed by bumping a couple of and was worried as if you bump a few some times the fish will spook and move on .
again i settled back and waited and waited Phil missed a couple more and then added another small bream but i was fearing the worst as i had not had a bite in a while now then i got a good indication and struck and again i had it on only to have it bump itself off .
again i checked the hook but i could not find anything wrong with it so refilled the feeder and sent it back out .
again i waited and a little while later got a gentle pull round which amounted to nothing as i again missed the fish Phil was again into a small bream of again about a pound and a half .
ii was really concentrating and had my hand clutching the handle waiting for a movement and sure enough round went the tip i struck and hooked the fish and felt it bump then it was off again, again i check my hook but there seemed nothing wrong with it .
some times this happens and it really can get frustrating but there really is nothing you can do .
we fished on but it seem the last fish i bumped off had spooked the shoal as i got no further action Phil swims had also gone quiet so we called it a day but although we caught Phil done better it just was a frustrating session for me but i not to bothered i must admit my creaming over the last few session have been very good indeed so i was due a slower session .

tightlines
Kevin

Re: bumped fish costly act

Good report and Pictures, Shame about the bumps.

I once heard it said that fish in a bowl only have a 3 second memory, but the more I fish the more it seems they learn and remember, once spooked they disappear and do not return, they get "hook shy" when you have caught a couple. I wonder if when you return one he says to his mates "dont eat the free food coming in, it has spikey bits in it" or does he return will tales of alien abduction!!

Re: bumped fish costly act

Brilliant read/pics as always Kev, sorry to hear you lost a few but I guess that comes with the teritory, at least you didn't blank and still ended up with a few good ones.
