River Stour at Wimborne

Hi all

Twiddler and I are thinking about have a day down at Wimborne on the river Stour, I believe that we can get day tickets from the Minster Sports in Wimborne and I am popping in to check one evening on my way home from work.

Just wondered if anyone had fished it and if so what they thought of it?

Cheers

mike

Re: River Stour at Wimborne

Well I went to check it out this evening and was told that wimborne angling club do not do day tickets for any of their waters, They were worried it would be over fished , but the tackle shop man said no one fishes it except for matches. So resigned to the fact this lovely water was out of my reach we chatted about why so many waters were excluding people and prospective members could not try waters before joining, we wondered why the EA do not get rights to some water and charge a limited number of day tickets to raise revenue to fund fishing in the UK. Having put the world to rights as two anglers talking always manage to do the guy let me into a little secret, a mile and a bit of free fishing on the Stour near wimborne where he said Mr Pike and Mr Perch liked to feed on the large roach that live there, he said he had had a 32lb pike there himself ( a fisherman's tale?).

So mobile phone camera at the ready I went to scout it out and this is what I found

Well what do you think??

the water was teaming with minnows and small fry, it was clear but dark, the channel by the island was slow moving and masses of overhanging trees.
Guess where I will be dangling the maggot this weekend , weather permitting, and any advice on predator fishing will be gratefully recieved!

Mike
