 Kennet & Avon Canal Report 21/09/06 After reading Mithrandir & Twiddlers report on catching Ruffe on the Kennett & Avon Canal. I decided that as I needed a Ruffe for the species hunt, I would give it a go there today. Got the Directions to Honeystreet from Mike (Mithrandir) Stopped at the tackle shop in Devizes for some bait & a day ticket (£3.50) & arrived at the venue at about noon & found a nice looking swim.  View to the right.  View to the left.  View in front (Vale of Pewsey White Horse) Mixed up some groundbait consisting of whatever I had left in my tackle box from previous trips. A mix of Middy Strawberry carp flavour, Van Den Eynde Secret & some brown crumb.  Fed a line of groundbait the full width of the canal to intercept any fish that might be passing.The conditions were ideal. The water was slightly coloured & there was a nice surface ripple. Loose fed a few pinkies & set up a 4m Whip with a small float & size 22 hook on a 1lb hooklength & baited with maggot. The fish fed almost immediately & I started to catch some nice roach, Perch & Bream up to about 1lb apeice. I hooked one very large & Angry Perch that I estimated to be about 3lb+ But on such light tackle & a Bleakwhip, the result was a forgone conclusion. Kept feeding every cast & the fish kept comming. I ended the day with a nice mixed bag of fish (Approx 20-25lb) including Roach, Dace, Perch, Bleak, Skimmer Bream, Bronze Bream & Gudgeon. Sadly though, no Ruffe.  All in all a nice day & nice venue. Thanks to Claudia & Mike for the info. I packed up at about 6pm & ended the Day with a nice pint of Ringwood Bitter at the Barge inn Alton Barnes.  __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey...     |
