Kennet and Avon canal next weekend

Well, now my bug has passed just in time to return to work (typical!!), Claudia and I are planning a trip next weekend to try a bit of canal fishing.

I have found a 15 mile stretch of the kennet and avon that can be day ticket fished for £3-50 each so fancied giving it a go.

Anyone tried the bit around Devizes?? or anyone fancy trying it this saturday if the weather pemits??

well Kev, I hear that the K&A is good for pike , so will do a scouting mission to see,ready for 1st October.I don't expect big fish, just a bit of variety

Wish I could join you two, but i'm working too. Kennet & Avon is good providing you can locate the fish. I always do well using liquidised bread & pinkies as loosefeed & breadflake on the hook. Find a feature such as a reedbed or overhanging bush & fish as close to it as you can, Feed little & often. Ideally fish with a roach pole or a very light ledger set-up. Straight lead or very small feeder. These tactics will usually sort out the better bream & Tench. Never really tried fishing it for Pike. Good luck.

P.S. maybe Claudia can catch me a few dozen Gudgeon for that recipe she found for me......

Thanks for the tips Ian, we knew we could count on you.....guess there are not many waters you haven't fished in the area.
We gonna try some float fishing, going for species, rather than size.


BTW it was Mike who found the recipe so he can put a 22 hook with half a pinky on his rod

well all ready for the morning now, made up some ground bait, sorted out the tackle box to minimum kit, got some casters ready, now just hope the weather holds, ovecast and dry would be good I think.
