Getting better

The weeks fishing holiday has begun. After having a great time at Sidmouth with Greenheart, Pingu and BaggieRich, we decided to explore some new waters in the area.

Monday we went to a place called Whinwhistle aprox 25 miles from here, our first choice was a swim in the local area but it was crowded with 'little human' so we decided against it.

Whinwhistle is a nice place, nice set up with 3 lakes, facilities with toilet and tea room.

I caught my first rudd and bream, only small though but there is something to add to my personal species hunt.
Oh, and I out fished Mike for the first time, by two fish!!!

Tuesday we went back to my fav swim, Todber manor, as i wanted to try to go for my first 'double' figure.

Didn't manage it but landed a nice bream of just over 6 lb and a few mirror carp between 3-5 lb.

Was a good experience for me to find out how gentle and hardly noticeable bream take the bait.

Mike had a lucky day and had his first 'double' figure with a beauty of a 11lb mirror carp.

Again, we used a simple tackle 'ledger' and bait, 'sweetcorn' on a 12 hook.

Also had a chance to try my new reel out, a little shimano Catana 1000RA, which I originally bought for river fishing but had to use it as I had a blonde moment and forgot to pack my second carp reel

over all I had a 23lb bag and Mike just missed the 50lb mark.

well you,ve learnt really quick twiddler and well done on your firsts and thats a nice bream too
that first double figure carp will come soon but keep it simple don,t try and think you got to be over clever and think you need to used the ultimate bait and the ultimate rig as they don,t exist simple tactics with a well placed bait is all you need .
think of it this way you would not eat you dinner off the carpet you want it on a plate and fish a no different . (location is the key )
also mithrandir cracking looking mirror well done

Thanks Kev, I do like to keep it simple as possible, I think it keeps fishing more interesting, also that way I learn to study the fish behaviour and feeding habbits hence more chance to catch them on simple rigs and baits.
