| Twiddler pops her cherry Decided to go down the local river for a couple of hrs fishing Friday afternoon after work. I didn’t think I’d catch anything and the blank days will stay with me for a little longer, still I don’t give up easily. Lucky it wasn’t busy with screaming ‘little humans’ (children), just the odd dog walker. I cast the line under a tree on the opposite bank, as I watched the fish hiding there in the shade. I used a ledger as a tackle, as I’m not good with floats in running water, keep getting caught in weed. I ground fed with a few maggots and not long after I had my first (and last) bite that day. I think I caught myself a ‘lady of the river’ ???? ![]() Sorry not very good pic Saturday, Mike and I went carp fishing at ‘Todbar Manor’ in North Dorset. The fishery consists of 5 lakes, 2 white posts lake, mainly carp between 8oz and 7 lb, small tench and crusian carp. Wadmill lake, (where we fished), is the biggest lake with a big head carp to 15 lb and bream to 7 lb. Park lake is a mixed fishery with carp, tench, ide, barbel, roach, skimmers and bream. The specimen holds carp between 9 and 29lb. They also have a tackle shop on site, day tickets are £6. ![]() ![]() Weather condition was good, a little rain shower in the morning, sunshine and a little windy for the rest of the day. Mike and I set pegs up next to each other, both using ledgers as a tackle, the wind was too strong for floats. As usual it didn’t take long for Mike before he got all the bites, don’t know how he does it, as we both use the same baits (sweetcorn) and tackles and cast close to each other, lucky dip I guess. Took me almost all day before I had my first bite, here is my result of my first perfect strike and LANDING a beauty of a mirror carp, I think??!! Weight just under 3 lbs. ![]() I had a couple more common carp after that , weight between 3 and 4 lbs. So after the loss of 2 weights, endless amount of hooks, I called it a day knowing that I’m not an angling virgin anymore. ![]() Claudia __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |

| Re: Twiddler pops her cherry Hi Just a quick follow up, Todber was a good days fishing. A 4 acre lake with islands, deep water and a few underwater "features" to catch you out. We tried a few different baits, but I caught 15 fish, carp and bream, mainly on sweetcorn and a #12 hook. All the method feeders near to us were blanking or catching small numbers, but I had a great day with a 50lb plus bag for a 17p tin of sweetcorn( mr Tesco's finest), cost me more in tackle than it did bait as my casting leaves a bit to be desired and the island took two sets, and two of my larger fish broke the main line as I was playing them in, again probably my lack of experience there. Still I had 5 fish of over 5lb and claudia got to bring in some nice ones to gain her confidence. I would recommend this venue to anyone wanting a simple days fishing. Mike |
