Talking waiting for me pink tip to waggle

well i had a pass tonight so after having read all baitmasters great reports on quivertipping for bream thought would have a go myself
went to tackle shop as wanted some maggot but all out so grabbed 2 bags groundbait and some hemp and thought "that'll do!!"( oh and whilst in there traded up an xk400 for an odessa bass as well )

river exe at countess wear was the target as they have some big slabs there (alledgedly), but after hastling through the traffic all i found was a pikey encampment on the banks , ( after living near epsom & derby for years i hate pikeys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!)
so not wanting to risk leaving the car there went off to the lime kilns on the exeter canal, also known for bream/tench and carp (and nice pike in winter)

the basin was busy(as right beside access car park) so walked along about 1/2 mile or so untill got to floating weed free(ish) area,( the whole canals getting fairly choked at moment)
this happened to be right under M5 motorway bridge as goes onto A30/devon express way(so if you were heading cornwall waytonight you would have passed me hehe)

but looked a cracking swim
so mixed up the grabbed groundbait of 1 bag vandee super match dark groundbait, and 1 bag dynamite silverfish and a tin of hemp and 1/2 bag sweetcorn(other 1/2 as hook bait)
threw in few balls to get swim on other side canal started

method was realy for river being feeder rod with size 10 hook (only hooks i had today!!!!!! oops )on 4lb hooklink(been reading a few posts hehe) but, I was now on canal ( and as had broken last feedertip got a few from ebay and 2oz one was seriously pink
)
sure geffski will love the colour after saturday

but tried anyway

the groundbait was doing a great job and i had loads(and i mean going mental type loads ) of small fish in the swim but all on the top I had a big feeder and sweetcorn on the bottom
but i persevered

well if i had had some floats and maggot i'm sure i could have bagged loads
but bottom baits wernt working at all (and thats all i had)and weed was a nightmare, (could have supplied local aquatic shop with Lbs)
gave up just before 10 as realised just wasnt going to happen tonight and would take the blank( and make last orders ;-) )
a good night but next time i'm taking a float as that mix worked great!!

dave

Unlucky mate.... Better luck next time...

Can't wait to get down there spinning for the pike though eh? Although, if there's that much weed I guess we're going to have to wait.....

Rich.

Re: waiting for me pink tip to waggle

weed was biblical last night
you can see it in waterabout a foot under the surface and canals 10ft deep
which also didnt help bottom fishing
saw a few nice spots for winter fishing though rich
