wow what an evening well finished work at 4:30 pm and decided i was going fishing but was a little unsure where to go got home and dad suggested we all visited a lake nearby and pick up some kfc on the way! (all other southern fried chicken varieties are available so grabbed my gear and off we went to our local lake my plan was to fish dog biscuits on the surface with one rod and another rod in close with a cube of luncheon meat on the bottom so got there fired out a load of biscuits to get the fish feeding and sat back chomping on my kfc when i got rudely disturbed by my bite alarm singing its little heart out! i dropped my chicken in the gravel carp on i thought after a very short time i realised that this fish werent no carp managed to land the beast! scrappy little fellow at that and 1.5points! plus new forum record of 1lb 2oz! lloll http://www.seafishingonline.com/copp...3/catfish1.jpg so on a buzz with a catfish i put on another lump of luncheon meat hoping to catch his mother!! needless to say not another bite on the bottom rod all night but i did manage to get the carp feeding on the surface the first one a fine common carp of 13lbs (thanks to the man fishing next to me for letting me use his scales!) http://www.seafishingonline.com/copp...mon%20carp.JPG then another a mirror carp (which put up a fight as if it was 121lbs!!) but alas was only 21lbs http://www.seafishingonline.com/copp...ror%20carp.JPG sorry about the pictures my mother is still learning with her digi camera!! by now the light was fading the roach were going mental for the biscuits on the surface but still the odd carp was coming up and although most of the time i was just striking at swirls under my biscuit (cos i couldnt see if the fish had taken it or not!) i failed to catch any more carp then on the last cast of the evening still freelining dogbiscuits there was a huge splash at my biscuit i struck a huge splash YES!! carp number 3 on! my dad came running over and said ''bloody hell you aint got another'' yes i replied although it isnt fighting like a carp im not really sure what it is but its big! after 30 mins (it is now complete darkness!) i landed this beast!! http://www.seafishingonline.com/copp...63/catfish.JPG and weighing in at a whopping 11lbs 14oz! caught on a size 10 hook with bait as dog biscuits i was impressed!!! here is another photo of her http://www.seafishingonline.com/copp...3/catfish2.JPG so all in all a great eveing and im going back tomorrow for a day time session!! i will post a report friday and let you know how it went! __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think!

Re: wow what an evening thanks kev can i just query on the hut at this venue there is a sign saying ''all catfish to be killed humanely'' whats all that about?! i asked the owner and he said they are all small but there is 100's of them and we need to cut down the numbers surely he could net the place and sell them? rather than killing the poor things he did also say its upto you wether or not you kill them or return them he really doesnt mind ...needless to say i returned both of mine i heard a rumour that he put the catfish into the lake then applied for some kind of licence to keep them? and got refused to now he has to kill them?! could there be any truth in this? and if so why do you need a permit to keep them? __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think!

Re: wow what an evening yes that is true they should have a license to keep cats as i believe they are deemed as a alien species and he has to be seen to unhold the EA, ruling in culling them or to be seen at least to be culling them .thats why he not bother if you put them back but by rights you are meant to be killing them but if you put them back and don,t say anything how canit be proved unless the EAwant to drain or electro fish and i can,t see that happen. one of our local lake is meant to do the same and me and my mate have had then to over thirty pound . also it not worth taking them out and trying to sell them asthey are worth nothing either . i hope thats explained it a bit i might have a look if i can find up the correct imfomation to clarify this tightlines kevin ![]()

Re: wow what an evening ahh right well he aint gonna want them killed cos big cats will/should attract some more anglers to his venue! i wonder why he got refused though as for catching my beast on dog biscuits on the surface i think it was a fluke of luck that the roach were attacking my biscuit light was fading and the catfish could see a easy meal flipping around on the surface so came up and attacked the roach thus swallowing my biscuit too!! i was damn lucky is all i can say but next time i get the chance to fish a darkness session i will be back with baits to catch them as it was a great fight! __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think!
