irstead staithe ( 1000 )

well again i went out late evening fishing as it was just to hot at home so i went down to the river .
this time i went to the river ant at irstead in the hope to find the bream or the hybrids .
now i don,t fish here very often as it not the place for the faint hearted or don,t like gnats or midges as down here they are man eaters .
on arriving the first thing to be done was to spray myself liberaly with deet to keep the gnats and midges off .
soon my swim was selected and the gear was soon got from the car and set up in my swim i was to fish

i decided to fish the same tactics as last night and the small cage feeder set up was kept the same .
again i mixed up some ground bait using dynamites fomulted ground baits this had maggots sweetcorn and bloodworm pellet added and then 4 to 5 balls were under armed out about two rod length .
once this was done 2 peices of corn were put onto my size 10 hook and the feeder filled and lob out to the edge of the slow moving water ,
it did not take long for the bite to start come with the tip switching from the small roach soon i got a better bite and i struck into a lovely roach about three quarters of a pound .
this was the only fish until dark but i missed loads of bite but i,m assuming this was due to the fish being small .with the onset of dark my confidence was high even though the bites from the roach had slowed right up ,this would hopefully start up with the bream if they were about .
i watch the tip light like a hawk and it seemed to dance about in front of my eyes so i kept having to look away to keep the tip light still ,if you ever stared at one long enough you know what i mean .

a little while passed and all was quiet but i had a strange feeling it was going to kick off and sure enough my tip dipped down and i struck into a good fish the feeder rod had a satifying arc and i could feel the fish thumping in the flow i knew instantly it was a bream and a lovely bream about 4 1/2 lb was soon in the net .again the bait was back in positions and i stare and waited for the next bite this again did not take to long a nd another bream was banked this went on steadily and a few bream were banked all being about
2lb.
every thing was going along smoothly and the fish were as i said coming steadily to the bank then suddenly distarster struck as i got the next bite i struck into a good fish and actually snap up on it .
not going to let this beat me i reset up and was soon fishing again and the next bite saw another bream hit the net about 4 1/2lb i decided as bite started to dry up a bit to call it a night so the tackle was cleared up and set the camera up to do a couple of pics
here is my net with the bream i caught

this was the brace of the two biggest that i caught

once these were done i put them back straight away but to my horror they started to belly up i had to release each fish indivually and i had to move the back and fourth to get a flow through there gills to like kick start them i was worried that i would lose one or two but luckerly and being careful and not rushing there release saw all the fish swim away strongly with them released i could head off home .

tightlines
kevin
