| A day on the lake in South Texas Hey guys-I joined the forum a while back and several wanted to know what it is like fishing here in the states, so here is a report from todays outing. Please forgive me if I post a picture of a bait that y'all are familiar with-I'm still learning y'alls terminology, and if you are not familiar with ours a picture really helps I mostly fish man-made reservoirs that are often the water supply for a town/city that range from maybe 500 acres to over 50,000 acres. I have a 17-6 bass boat with a 115 horsepower outboard and a 71-pound thrust electric trolling motor. Today I met up with a buddy to fish an electrics only lake about 30 miles north of San Antonio-an electrics only lake means you can not use a gasoline outboard, just an electric motor. The one we fished is about 500 acres. We got on the water about 5 AM, and it was a different type day than we usually have-most days there is a 10-15 MPH wind, but today it was still-no wind at all, which we were quite happy about. We started working down the bank throwing surface baits with no takers. I switched to a spinnerbait: (I make my own-these are a few I made)And on the third or fourth cast a 2 1/2 lb largemough bass absolutely crushed it-straightened the wire almost completely out. I caught one more on it then the spinnerbait bite ended. We moved into a deep channel with a lot of standing timber and caught another on a small leadhead finesse jig: ![]() That weighs 3/16 of an ounce. It weighed maybe a pound, and while we were there it began to rain-not hard and no lightning, so we kept fishing. Then the wind started to blow pretty hard out of the NW and the bite turned off-we went several hours with no takers, and then it started to rain with the wind. We decided to head back to the boat ramp to pull the boat out of the water when it quit raining and the wind started to lay down. I ended up catching three more on a soft plastic stickbait called a Yum Dinger: ![]() That was a dark green color called watermelon seed. All told I got 6 and my buddy got 5, most were small fish less than a pound we call dinks. Dummy me forgot I had the camera in the boat-thought I left it at home-or I would have posted some pics. Regardless, it was a very enjoyable day with a good fishing buddy and I'm ready to go again! |

| Re: A day on the lake in South Texas Good job Reb. Keep it up. Hardcore Walleye fishermen spend alot of time and energy keeping live bait...minnows, leeches and nightcrawlers(lob worms). Its the L.M.Bass fishermen that are big w/artificials. __________________ A bad day fishing is better than a good day working!
