squabmoor 23/6

well managed to haul myself out of bed at 4 this morning and made a minging flask of coffee(god knows what i did to it but was undrinkable later)
got to resevoir at 4.30 light just breaking with nice mist on water and bats still flying arround(took some photos but bit too dark ) there was 1 other person at lake parked in his car on dam wall(well beats a bivvy i guess)

set up into swim i wanted from seeing carp yesterday, and cast out 1 rod for these elusive beasties(tuttifrutti with loads of pellets in bags fired and also having run arround and sent 1/2 a bag into area as well)

other rod just float fished with maggot and corn over crumb.maggot and corn groundbait
this rod was into fish almost straight away with skimmers, roach and perch nothing big but fun

then this dried up(and carp rod still playing dead) so headed to tail end of resevoir and cast out to the lilies(where had seen couple of big carp jumping
so i went round and threwin some pellet and chopped boilie freebies and then cast a fishmeal boilie over

well nothing happened over there at all so set float rod closer and carried on with loads more nice roach , fiesty perch and slimy skimmers,
carp rod left near lilies again played dead for rest of morning

eventually found some carp feeding on bottom but god knows how you get them out of this jungle

a lovelly morning watching masses of wildlife, including some really cute moorhen chicks, long tailed tits, treecreepers and the biggest dragonflies i have everseen(think thats why area is an sssi), didnt post pikkies of fish as nothing bigger than my hand ,

home now to get the beachrods and 525's and see if daughter wants to help me hunt down the elusive and hard fighting gudgeon and minnow on the river later(well the missus wouldnt want me to keep those maggots in the fridge now )

Re: squabmoor 23/6

for info went back in evening tried 1 carp rod on meathod , result nothing
whilst hunting roach and other small species to get swin going threw in 1 ball of this groundbait/meathod mix amost straight away hooked into a very big carp, but on 2lb line and a size 14 hook you can guess who won ;-@

also daughter as ever caught more fish than me(all roach) midges were a nightmare tho,
