newbarn farm

hi all not much of a report as im struggling to keep my eyes open!

fished newbarn farm all day yesterday all night last night and up until 5pm this evening!

started around 11am yesterday.. fished until 5pm without a bite!

then off screamed one of my rods and i reeled in a nice common carp of around 15lbs.

then i setup my bivvy (which probably put the fish off in my area for a while) didnt get another run until dark but persisted however to put plenty of pellets into my 2 choosen areas to fish.

then dusk came and it was almost as if someone flicked a switch! between dusk which was around 915-930 and 2 am i had 8 fish! all fell to nash bling boilies from my right hand rod.. the left hand rod which had nash scopex and squid boilies just sat there and did nothing.. then around 3am i couldnt stay awake no longer wound in both rods and went to sleep (no bite alarm no matter how big or how small will wake me when im sleeping )

had a gentleman fishing next to me he was fishing with white chocolate boilies and didnt have a single run all night! (made me feel good)
he gave me some tips also showed me his small camping stove which i fell in love with he told me it was 20 odd quid..

then thismorning i woke up around 6am heard lots of voices! climbed out of my sleeping bag had a good look round turned to climb back into my bivvy and notice there was a carboot sale taking place in the field near by.

off i went in search of some early morning goodies

got there didnt see much i liked but found the exact same stove as the gentleman fishing next to me had for sale with 3 spare tins of gas purchased that found another stall with a couple frying pans brought those too! cost me 9 quid the lot!!! what a bargain (i thought so anyway)

then went back to my fishing.

well to say it was dead was an underestamation didnt have a touch all day until i saw my dad pulling down the drive way and off went my left hand rod (finally the squid and scopex do work i thought)
when it came to the bank that made it fish number 10! a cracking fish of 19lbs 8oz (the baliff also mentioned this fish was 18lbs 8oz 3 weeks ago!) is this a sign they are gonna spawn any moment? or a sign they have spawned and are starting to put weight back on?

anyway a cracking night and days fishing i will check weather forecasts ect but may go do it all again tomorrow night/ monday

Thumbs up Re: newbarn farm

A very enjoyable read that Dave. Sounds like a nice session. Funny how carp will go for one flavour & not another. I use scopex flavouring a lot. Trouble is bream like it too. I also enjoy bootfairs but don't get many chances to get to them these days due to working weekends.

Re: newbarn farm

weldone dave a great read and well done on the fish you had

i,ve all way believed is does not matter how good you bait is it will only catch around 75% of the stock (and if the fish you are targeting are in the other 25% you will need to change your bait )

Re: newbarn farm

well i did try various baits today luncheon meat sweet corn tutti and banana pellets soft halibut pellets even drilled some trout pellets but nothing...

however i asked the baliff why they werent feeding he said '' they are feeding your just fishing it wrong!'' i snarled and looked at him and said ''ok wise guy show me what im doing wrong'' he grinned walked off and came back with a pint of maggots!

'maggots' i thought.. you will get plagued by the millions of roach in this place if u use them

''no'' he said ''not if you fish them in close enough on the ledge the roach wont come in that close''

and off he went sprinkling these maggots onto a muddy legde below my rod tip

''now sit back here and wait he said'' so we sat in my bivvy had a chat then he gets up on his belly he slides towards the edge of the pond looks back at me and says ''psst come see they do feed'' i got down on my belly slid across to the edge and to my amazement there was a total of 4 carp sliding in taking a gobful of maggots then sliding out!!

now this water was no more then 18inches deep! you could see the bottom as clear as i could see the full moon last night! i said ''quick gimme some maggots im gonna have myself one of those''

to which he replied ''none left mate i threw the pint of them in the water!''

arggghhhh ok how much do i have to pay to buy a pint of these maggots i asked

3 quid he replied but we have none left in the shop til monday!!

to say i was gutted is an understatement but i have learnt a new way of catching them and providing my local shop has some maggots i will be out there tomorrow to hook a few out!

Great report mate, I'm a lover of scopex boilies too. Rod Hutchinsons are very good

right well i will let you know tomorrow what the tackle shop charges me

maybe 3 quid is the going rate maybe they just charge extra for keeping them pond side! i dont know

the baliff also told me to watch out for new boilies they have started producing onsite so i will be keeping a close eye on that one as i dont want to miss out on a good thing!
