Question quiet night but needed and questin

well after a nice start to today at docks
had the afternoon from hell so decided to chill by going to lime kilns at exeter this eve
this is an exeter angling water (part of canal) and noted for bream, tench, carp and pike!!! my target for ast time this year

tonight i was using up last of dead baits for pike
weather was warm and humid and flat calm, not good but needed time out
didnt walk too far from car park (which is below left hand big tree in 1st picture turned right and walked 4-5 mins max( ps have just re gravelled road so no big pot holes now!!!! )
looking north from swim

this is south

sorry to say nowt happened all eve apart fron hot air balloon apearing infront of me about at about 7 which was nice!! :-)

could only float fish bait due to amount of weed, this is a deep 12ft approx swim but weed will grow to top so now will wait till winter again

there was one activity which provokes a question from me tho
when i was using last of that stinking lamprey bait was getting a load of bubbles from below(almost like tench) and alot !!!!!!!!!!!!of float movement but no takes is there anything else that attacks this bait or will pike play with bait rather than just strike????

sorry if this makes no sense went to pub afterwards and had more than a few
dave

Re: quiet night but needed and questin

Here, if its near shore or cover, Minnows (small bait fish) will pick at it, but are way too small to take it.

Re: quiet night but needed and questin

Looks great chilled evening mate

As for these bubbles were they the very tiny pin bubbles of a tench or could be eels mate as they will eat or try to eat anything

Nice pics Dave, shame about the fish. Could those bubbles have been made by crayfish? Not sure if theres any there?
