Re: hogsbrook no more

Same around here Chris, all the best waters get snapped up by syndicates or expensive clubs. Problem with paying that much to join is that it ties you to one fishery for the season in order to make it worthwhile paying so much.
I still enjoy non-commercial waters, especially rivers. People get too obsessed with stocked specimin waters & overlook good free or cheap club stuff. My local free water, the Bristol Avon at Bradford is stuffed with good fish.

Re: hogsbrook no more

sorry for sounding slightly dumb here... but what pratt is going to pay 300 quid to fish a muddy puddle for a year?...

dont get me wrong i have fished hogsbrook in the past and it does have some decent fish in it... but when i go carp fishing i take my parents sometimes my friend and sometimes his kids... so your telling me its gonna cost me 2 grand a year so we can visit this water maybe once a week..... screw u mansell....there is plenty of waters in the area that i can fish some of which are bigger and better stocked lakes others are smaller but it will only cost me 6 quid each time i visit which maybe twice a week if im extremely lucky.

Re: hogsbrook no more

probably find out it has something to do with youngsters fishing all night making too much noise ect and this is aimed at detering them!..

oh well still have creedy and salmon hutch,

salmon hutch is a really nice looking place 3 huge lakes full with plenty of good sized carp...(they were all sat on the surface when we went out there for a look!)

however ive been told you need to spend time learning how to fish it

Re: hogsbrook no more

Sorry for dragging up an old thread but I was doing a search on local venues and this came up.

I can't believe what they're charging! How can you go from two day ticket puddles to a £250 a year members only venue? I fished there a few times and enjoyed myself but this is crazy. Maybe £100-£150. But not £250-£300. No way.

There's posters up in the tackle shops that says there's carp up to 36lbs. Really? REALLY?! No carp of that size were ever caught before they closed and re-opened it.

And a lot of the carp's mouths were in such a poor state. It was clearly overstocked. The visibility of the water was about 1cm.

I hope Creedy doesn't go the same way...

Re: hogsbrook no more

the main thing they see is more money.. plus if they can get a private members club the club will look after the waters but that is steep and when you think i take my mum dad and a friend with me when i travel out to exeter fishing over 1grand a year just to fish one venue? i think not!!

Not fished there myself. Heard rumours of fish that size though. Very hush hush....... It's a beautful place but VERY popular with dogs and families etc. And about 1000 canada geese! If they allowed night fishing there it would be packed I reckon.

I find Creedy a weird place though. It's a bit too intense for me! Bait boats, Real Tree from head to tow, scowls from anglers if you dare to tip toe past, grunts if you dare to speak to them! Loads of great fish though.
