Darksides not so dark after all.

Well i took the plunge today bought some maggots and some other strange stuff and set off to the nearest bit of fresh water to my house.
My trusty freshwater buddy was my guide for the afternoon and he told me if you cant catch carp here your gay!
Tactics for the sess were to be method feeder and whilst he fished meat i chose some rather nicely coloured maggots to go on my hook.
I cast out about 1230 and sat back in my nice comfy chair to admire the wildlife,ah this is the life,no howling wind or large waves covering your line in weed just the splash of topping carp and the odd diving greeb.
I was begging to like this and then i remembered"this is the dark side its not real fishing"
Well a couple of hours passed and nothing yet had happened, not a twitch or a wobble on the trusty quiver tip,my mate switched from meat to maggot then onto some rather tasty smelly boilys (why dont we use boilies in the sea??lug, peeler flavour etc) but still he couldnt buy a bite.
I was just nodding off when my tip wrapped round and off went the drag,as i hooked into the fish it felt about 50lb .The monster surfaced and spashed about 50 yrds out,it took me on a run and then snagged me solid much to the amusement of my mate
Oh well at least there out there feeding.
I had nothing for another half hour and then bang!tip right round and fish on.
Your not snagging me this time you bugger and i lifted the rod as if i was codding off the east coast.
The carp new he was up against a sea angler and quickly gave up the fight ,i didnt weigh it but i reckon it was about 3-4lb,not big but a nice common carp in perfect nick.

Right back out we go .big ball of bait,4 maggots and spash!
A little while passed and i then i hooked into another, after a short scrap i netted a bigger common af about 6lb much to the delght of my mate
I was really enjoying it and could have stayed till dark but we had to be off, right last cast then home.
My bait must have only been in the water a minute when another carp took off with my multicoloured maggot bait, this fish was a lot smaller then the others but gave the best fight of the three, trying its best to avoid the net.

Well a very enjoyable afternoon,3 carp and i may even dabble with the darkside again
My mate is a good angler but had one of those days we all have were you just cant buy a bight for love nor money.
It was just a shame he had his ultra off day when he invited a squid slinger like me

Dont have any sympathy for my mate ,he s the first to rub it in whenever he gets the chance.

Re: Darksides not so dark after all.

Nice one Gully. Good when you beat these coarse boys at their own game eh?

Didn't you have the urge to try and put a bollie 150 yards across the lake though?

Rich.
