Bury Hill 20th April 06: Bagging up!

Got to Bury Hill at 10.30am and set up on the Long Bank on the Old Lake looking out towards the island.

The wind was in my face, which I wanted, hopefully it would bring the fish into my swim Weather was overcast, the forecast was for sun, but it rained on and off all day instead Sadly, it was still a bit chilly.

On my right rod I was fishing 14mm Marine Halibut pellets, drilled and on a hair rig. This was placed in a PVA bag with 6mm Marine Halibut pellets. I figured this would get me some bream at Bury Hill for definite and anything else was a bonus.

On my left rod, it was a Mainline Strawberry Ice Cream 16mm boilie and Pineapple Pop-Up in a 'Snowman' setup. This was for carp mainly.I was catapulting freebies over the top of this setup.

All I can say is that the Marine Halibut pellets sent the fish mental in my swim. First cast and 5 minutes later I got try out my new scales when I caught a bream of 2lbs. Surprisingly (to me anyway) I then caught two tench, the first one weighing 4lb 2oz and this one which weighed 4lb 12 oz:

About this time I had a belter of a take on the left rod to which I connected to...nothing

From then on it was non-stop: 2 more tench around the 3lb mark and 7 more bream, one of which hit 4lb 5oz:

On the carp rod, all I had was two missed dropbacks, but to be honest I don't think they were carp, probably more likely bream. I switched to a PVA stringer setup later but I don't think the carp were having it at all today.

Anyway, cracking day, the carp can wait for another time

Rob

Excellent report & pics there Rob. Glad to hear that i'm not the only one having trouble getting a carp. Hope to sort that out tomorrow though. Well done mate, some nice fish.
